Intercultural Business Etiquette

In the Context of INCONTACT a first version of a document on Intercultural Business Etiquette is produced. It includes a compilation of “basic” information for the Business Etiquette in several countries and cultures.

The country files include all the necessary basic information from the main religion and language, to greeting habits and business behavior (Check the files on the INCO-WIKI)

FP7-INCO-2010-6 CALL, ERAWIDE—
A new opportunity for the INCO NCPs

Under the call FP7-INCO-2010-6, ERAWIDE, EU research institutions can build or extend collaboration with research institutions based in European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) countries. This is a new opportunity for INCO NCPs, as we have again the opportunity to collaborate with the research institutions in our countries.

The objective of this new action is to reinforce the cooperation capacities of research centres located in the ENP countries, which are not associated to FP7. The call gives these countries the possibility to improve the research activities of their highest quality and/or promising centres in the thematic priorities of FP7.

Proposed activities
The activities covered by the call are:
•    Networking with research centres in Member States or Associated Countries in view of disseminating scientific information, identifying partners and setting up joint experiments;
•    Developing training modules to build competency and facilitate the participation in FP7 of the centres located in the targeted third countries;
•    Developing the research centres’ strategy in order to increase their scope in particular their regional coverage and to improve their responses to the socio-economic needs of their countries and of the region.

Funding
The funding scheme that applies is the Coordination and Support Action (supporting action). Community contribution for each project is expected to be about EUR 0.5 million. The typical duration of the project would be between 2 to 3 years.

Participants
This call is addressed to research centres of proven high level S&T capacities, which are located in an ENP country not associated to FP7. The research centre is defined here as an existing working unit, either independent or functioning within a locally established research organisation of one of the countries concerned, having preferably distinct organisational and administrative boundaries. The centre should not be a subsidiary or branch of an organisation established in another country. In order to be eligible, the proposal must target only one such centre, the consortium should however include additional participants, in particular from the Member States and/or Associated Countries so as to fulfil the objectives of the Activity.

Areas open to this call
The call will be open to the fields of science addressed by the thematic priorities of FP7 and will target centres located in the following regions:
•   Area INCO.2010-6.1: Eastern Europe and South Caucasus: Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan
•  Area INCO.2010-6.2: Mediterranean Partner Countries: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Palestinian-administered Areas, Lebanon, Syria

Important Information
•  The consortium must include the research centre that is targeted in the proposal.

•  The research centre targeted by the proposal should be the coordinator of the proposal.

•  At least one project per country covered by the areas of this activity will be funded, provided that it has passed thresholds of all evaluation criteria. Therefore, the highest ranked proposal for a given target country will be considered for FP7 Capacities Work Programme: Activities of International Cooperation 2010 funding, subject to the result of the evaluation and availability of the budget. After allocating a budget to the best projects in this way, all remaining projects in each Area will be ranked together in one list according to the marks obtained during evaluation. The remaining budget will be allocated to the projects according to their position in this overall ranking without further concern for country coverage.

Information and Brokerage Day on Call FP7
KBBE 2010 , Brussels, 7 Oct 2009

An information day and brokerage event on transnational research cooperation in food, agriculture and fisheries and biotechnology will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 7 October 2009. The objective of the event is to bring together research stakeholders, industry representatives and Commission officials, and to provide ground for discussion and networking within the scope of the 'Food, agriculture and fisheries, biotechnology' theme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The event will include a presentation of the areas addressed by the 2010 call, presentations of proposal ideas and a session of pre-arranged bilateral meetings to discuss potential partnerships in FP7 proposals. The event is organised by BIO CIRCLE, a European project on international cooperation in FP7 with Third Countries, in collaboration with the European Commission and the MEDA GO TO EUROPE. More information on the Event and how to register as a researcher will be published here this week.

INCO-wiki - www.ncp-incontact.eu

The INCO-Wiki is an Online Encyclopaedia on International Cooperation compiling relevant information on International Cooperation activities in the 7th Framework Programme of the EU.

This is the place for INCO NCPs and FP7 contacts in Third Countries to add information on Best Practices, News, Events, and comment on interesting developments. For example log in and read how to perform a partner search or how to negotiate for a project.

• The first session will include the presentation of specific NCP best practices and also about the effect of cultural differences in research initiatives (Check the complete INCONTACT Training agenda).

• The second training session will take place on the 6th of October 2009 at APRE’s office (for a limited number of participants) and will focus on ”Gender in Research” (check the complete agenda):

Research on the cultural differences and their effect on research collaborations

An undergoing research is producing interesting results on the cultural differences and their effect on research collaborations.

The final result will be the production of several presentation modules on cultural differences and their effect on research and technological collaborations

The presentations will provide useful information on aspects of intercultural communication for the European researcher 's  community as well as for third country participants and should help researchers from different parts of the work to effectively collaborate by knowing potential cultural peculiarities of the partner country or a region.

The presentation contains an introduction to the main field of intercultural training and communication and elaborates specific fields of conflict, typical for international cooperation.

Additionally, this task will provide a PowerPoint presentation aiming at NCPs and  FP7 contacts in third countries  on the topic: “How to present FP7 to a non-European community?”

The first draft presentations  are prepared and published on the INCO-WIKI and available for use by the INCO NCPs.
(go to the INCO-WIKI website and type “cultural” on the search tool)
