Framework Programs

Framework Programs

The 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological developement (FP7) is a seven years programme (lasting from 2007 to 2013) with a budget of over € 50 billion.

Sucessor of FP6, FP7 is both larger and more comprehensive than the previous programme. It is the result of years of consultation with the research community from both the public and private sectors, with economic actors, and with political decision makers in Europe. It is also more flexible, with simplified procedures.

The main strategic objectives of the Framework Programmes are :

- To strengthen the scientific and technological base of European industry

- To encourage its international competitiveness, while promoting research that supports EU policies.

FUNDING SCHEMES

The "Funding schemes" are the types of projects, by which FP7 is implemented. They are the following:

- Collaborative projects

- Networks of excellence

- Coordination and support actions

- Individual projects

- Support for training and career development of researchers

- Research for the benefit of specific groups - in particular SMEs
