ENPI

European Neighbourhood & Partnership Instrument (ENPI)

The European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) is the financial instrument supporting the EU’s Partnership with the Mediterranean Partner Countries which replaced MEDA in 2007. The ENPI is a much more flexible, policy-driven instrument. Funds allocated to individual country programmes depend on their needs and absorption capacity, as well as their implementation of agreed reforms. For the budgetary period 2007-2013 approximately €12 billion in funding are available to support these partners' reforms.

The final results of the project 'Analysis for European Neighbourhood Policy Countries and the Russian Federation on the Social and Economic Benefits of Enhanced Environmental Protection', are published on the project’s website: http://www.environment-benefits.eu (hosted until May 2014).

The regional synthesis report and the country reports for the Southern countries contain an executive summary, both in English and in French and/or Arabic.

The country benefit assessments were conducted using methodologies and assumptions that are fully documented in the Benefit Assessment Manual (BAM), which has been developed under the project and which is also posted on the project’s website. This Manual should support decision-makers and policy planners in the countries that wish to conduct their own, tailored assessments, using the most recent and accurate data available at a given point in time.

The project results show that reinforced environment protection can lead to major social, health and economic benefits in all European Neighbourhood (ENP) partner countries and the Russian Federation.
